HARD Retopo – EULA
Last updated: 27 October 2026
This agreement is between you and HARD SURFACE, the maker of HARD Retopo ("we", "us"). It sets the terms for using HARD Retopo, whether you bought a license or are using the free trial.
You accept these terms when you buy a license, install HARD Retopo, or activate it. If you do not agree, do not install or use the software.
1. Definitions
| Term | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Software | HARD Retopo, its installers, updates, documentation and the bridge scripts for 3ds Max, Maya and Blender |
| License Key | The key we send you after purchase, which activates the Software |
| Indie | The edition licensed for 1 computer |
| Studio | The edition licensed for up to 2 computers at the same time, with Rename, the Bridge and UV Unwrap included |
| Seat | One computer on which a License Key is activated |
| Major Version | A release numbered by its first figure, such as 1.x or 2.x |
| Update | A release within the same Major Version, such as 1.0.1 or 1.2 |
| Trial | The free 7-day version of the Software, used without a License Key |
2. License grant
We give you a perpetual, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to install and use the Software, within the limits of the edition you bought. The Software is licensed, not sold: we keep all rights not given to you here.
- Individual license. Each License Key, Indie or Studio, is for one named person. A studio buys one key per artist who uses the Software.
- Commercial use. You may use the Software for paid and commercial work with both editions.
- Indie covers 1 computer. Studio covers up to 2 computers at the same time and includes Rename, the Bridge (sending meshes to 3ds Max, Maya and Blender) and UV Unwrap.
- Companies. A company with more than 10 employees must buy Studio licenses.
- Perpetual means the version you are entitled to keeps working after your update period ends (section 4).
3. Activation, seats and the license server
The Software needs an internet connection to activate and checks in with our license server from time to time. Each activation uses one Seat, tied to that computer.
- Moving to another computer. Deactivate the old computer under File > License, then activate the new one. You can also free a Seat from another computer, up to 3 times in 30 days; for more, contact us.
- Offline use. After activation the Software keeps working offline for up to 30 days. It renews automatically whenever it is online.
- Replaced hardware. Reinstalling Windows on the same computer keeps the same Seat. A copied or cloned system counts as a new computer and needs its own Seat.
4. Updates and versions
Your License Key is for one Major Version and includes every Update released within 12 months of your purchase.
- After the 12 months, you keep using the last Update released within them, with no time limit.
- A new Major Version (for example 2.0 after 1.x) is a separate purchase. It is not included in a 1.x license, whatever its purchase date.
- We are not obliged to release Updates, keep any feature, or support versions older than the current one.
5. Free trial
The Trial lets you evaluate the Software for 7 days, once per computer. It is for evaluation only; work made with it may not be exported.
- The Trial has no export, no Bridge, no UV Unwrap and no Rename.
- When the 7 days end, the Software asks for a License Key and no longer opens without one.
- Trying to restart the Trial on the same computer, or to bypass its limits, breaks this agreement. We may extend a Trial on request, at our discretion.
6. What you may not do
- share, publish, sell, rent, lend or give away your License Key, or let another person use it;
- use more computers than your edition allows;
- remove, disable or get around the licensing, the Trial limits or the activation checks;
- reverse engineer, decompile, disassemble or modify the Software;
- copy or redistribute the Software, its installers or its bridge scripts, except backups for your own use;
- use the Software to build a product that competes with it.
7. Your work and third-party components
The meshes, scenes and files you make with the Software are yours. We claim no rights in them and do not receive them; scenes and models stay on your computer.
The Software includes open-source components, used under their own licenses (LGPL). Those licenses, not this agreement, govern those components, and their notices are listed with the Software.
8. Data used for licensing
To activate, check and update licenses, the Software sends our license server only the following. It never sends your scenes, models or files.
| Data | Why |
|---|---|
| Your License Key | To find your license and its Seats |
| A computer ID: a one-way fingerprint of the Windows installation and of the motherboard | To tell your computers apart, without sending the IDs themselves |
| The computer's name and operating system | So you can recognise your computers when freeing a Seat |
| The Software's version | To offer the Updates your license includes |
| Your email and order number, from your purchase | To send your License Key and recover it if lost |
The Trial sends the same computer data, without a key. How we keep and protect this data is set out in our Privacy Policy.
9. Purchase and delivery
Licenses are sold through hard-surface.com. Your License Key and download link arrive by email right after payment. Prices include VAT where it applies.
10. Refunds and the right of withdrawal
All sales are final: we do not offer refunds. Use the free 7-day Trial (section 5) to test the Software before you buy.
11. Termination
This license lasts until it ends under this section. We may end it, and revoke your License Key, if you break this agreement, for example by sharing your key, or if your payment is refunded or charged back.
When the license ends, stop using the Software and remove it from your computers. Sections 6, 7, 12 and 13 still apply after it ends.
12. Warranty and liability
The Software is provided "as is", to the extent the law allows. We do not promise that it is free of errors, that it suits a particular purpose, or that it reads every CAD file correctly. Keep backups of your work.
Our total liability to you is limited to the price you paid for your license. We are not liable for lost data, lost profits, or indirect or consequential loss. Nothing here limits liability that the law does not allow us to limit, such as for intent, gross negligence, or your rights as a consumer.
13. Law, changes and contact
This agreement is governed by the law of Romania.
We may update this agreement for new versions of the Software. The terms in force when you bought your license apply to that license; new terms apply to Major Versions or licenses bought after they are published.
